What changes have been made to our NIS servers?

What does this mean?

Further improved operations and data security.

What is NIS?

NIS stands for Network Information Service and provides distributed service to simplify administration work in a networked computing environment. It plays a vital role in the economy and wider society and aims to address the threats posed to network and information systems from a range of areas, most notably cyber-attackers, therefore improving the functioning of the digital economy.

Why organisational security requires continuous improvement?

As resilience on technology grows, the failure of network and information systems has a bigger impact which further creates increased opportunities to compromise those systems. NIS ensures the security of critical network and information systems in order to keep businesses, citizens and public services protected.

How critical is a threat?

Any attack on a critical infrastructure is a very real threat. To put this in perspective, the first known successful cyber attack on a power grid occurred in Dec 2015 when information systems of three energy organisations in Ukraine were compromised by hackers, leaving almost a quarter of a millions people without electricity
